- An estimated 50 percent of United States households will be served by fiber-optic technology by 2025. While impressive, the figure still leaves half of America to rely on older technologies in an increasingly bandwidth-hungry world. In this installment of Broadband Breakfast Live Online, we’ll explore innovative solutions that increase the capabilities of infrastructure already in place.

Reg Weiser is the founder and CEO of Positron Access Solutions, an innovative telecom equipment manufacturer that enables Gigabit services over telephone and coax wiring. Reg serves on the advisory board of Dalhousie University where he received his engineering and honorary doctorate degrees. He was a recipient of the Quebec Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Export Canada Award, and in 2005 was inducted in the Canadian Engineering Academy. Reg’s passion is to help North America become a leader in high-speed broadband penetration.
Pierre Trudeau is a networking and technology executive and board member with more than 35 years of experience. Prior to joining Positron in 2013 to lead the development of Positron’s GAM, Pierre founded Colubris Networks, a leader in advanced Wi-Fi solutions for wireless ISPs, carriers and enterprises in March 2000. Colubris was acquired by Hewlett-Packard in 2008. Pierre holds multiple networking related patents, and has an M.Sc and B.Sc degree in Computer science from Sherbrooke University in Quebec.

The battle over net neutrality rages on as sharply divided views pour in following the FCC’s proposal to reinstate the once-scrapped regulation. In recent pitches, the Democratic-led agency has touted classifying broadband providers as Title II common carriers rather than information services – the crux of the net neutrality debate – would also safeguard customer privacy and public safety. But this would grant the FCC oversight powers that some argue fall outside its remit. What does the internet landscape look like presently, especially after Congress just pumped billions of dollars into expanding broadband access?
