CS Hyde Company High-Quality Plastics for Aerospace Industry Applications
CS Hyde Company has been a global supplier of high-performance tapes, films, fabrics and silicone for more than 20 years.
Our Illinois-based converting facility provides customisation services, including slitting, die-cutting, lamination, sheeting and belting.
Lightweight high-strength aircraft parts
Industrial standards in the plastics industry constantly change, especially in aerospace manufacturing. Most aircraft components integrate metal materials and, therefore, the demand for lightweight, high-strength options has been growing. Although certain metals can be altered to incorporate specific properties, using performance plastics can be a more cost-effective solution.
Integrating plastic die-cut components enables aircraft manufacturers to achieve large production runs in a short time frame and a fast turnaround for replacement parts. We have the capability to cut parts straight from a digital drawing.
We also specialise in kitting for components that require several different parts. Plastic components can be used for mounting brackets, cabin partitions, sensor panels, luggage bins and many other aircraft applications.
Over the years, our business has grown consistently by adopting new converting technology, materials and industry standards.
High-quality plastic for the aerospace industry applications
Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has an extremely high temperature, mechanical, electrical and chemical resistance. It is a high-quality plastic suitable for aerospace industry applications as it can withstand high radiation levels and has a low flammability rating.
It can be exposed to high-pressure water and steam due to its hydrolysis resistance. PEEK is a preferred product in the aerospace industry due to its performance properties and up to 450°F operating temperature.
PEEK film is available in various thicknesses, ranging from .0048in to .060in. We can supply PEEK in rolls, sheets or die-cut parts and with or without pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing.
Flame-retardant plastic for the aerospace industry
Ultem polyetherimide (PEI) is amorphous, transparent and flame-retardant plastic that meets UL94 V0, V2 and 5VA ratings. PEI offers high heat and chemical resistance, as well as high strength and modulus.
The plastic is also thermoformable, which means it can be heated to pliable forming temperatures to form specific shapes in a mould. Similarly to PEEK, Ultem is a cost-effective solution if continuous temperatures below 338°F are acceptable for the application.
High-strength plastic for the aerospace industry
Acetal polyoxymethylene (POM) offers low wear, resistance to repeated impact, as well as high strength and rigidity in a broad temperature range. The plastic provides long-term creep and fatigue resistance, optimal dimensional stability and high resistance to chemicals, moisture and fuels such as gasohol and oxygenated fuels.
The versatility of the film enables POM to be used for a broad range of applications, including aerospace components. For example, the plastic can be used as gaskets for fuel system components due to its chemical resistance to fuels.
Acetal is available in various thicknesses, ranging from .003in to .020in. It can be supplied in rolls, sheets or die-cut parts and with or without adhesive backing.
Chemical-resistant plastic for the aerospace industry applications
Virgin-grade polymer polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) incorporates Teflon fluoroplastics. It is extremely slippery, as well as temperature and chemical-resistant. PTFE is most commonly used as a release sheet for numerous applications.
In electrical applications, PTFE can be used where high-temperature service ratings and high-level electrical properties are required. In aerospace applications, PTFE is suitable for shielding myriad cables and wires in an aircraft or can be used as seals to prevent corrosion.
Virgin PTFE film is available in various thicknesses, ranging from .001in to .125in and virgin PTFE sheet stock from .187in to 1in. We supply PTFE in rolls, sheets or die-cut parts and with or without PSA adhesive backing.
Thermal management solution for the aerospace industry
Kapton Polyimide Type HN is a tough, aromatic polyimide film, offering optimal electrical, chemical and physical properties in a broad range of temperatures.
Kapton can be used at temperatures as low as -452°F (-269°C) and as high as 752°F (400°C). The reliable plastic is suitable for the aerospace industry applications since it can maintain its properties in adverse environments and during vibration.
The film can be used as an insulator or a thermal management solution. Kapton is available in variable thickness, ranging from .0003in to .005in and .006in to .020in, including Cirlex Kapton laminated products. Kapton can be supplied in rolls, sheets or die-cut parts and with or without adhesive backing.
