Emirates to purchase 50 A350-900 XWB aircraft for $16bn

UAE-based airline operator Emirates agreed to purchase up to 50 A350-900 XWB aircraft from Airbus.

Valued at AED58.7bn ($16bn) according to list prices, the deal was announced at the Dubai Airshow 2019.

Airbus is expected to begin deliveries of the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB powered aircraft in May 2023 and continue through 2028.

Boeing secures order for 30 787-9 Dreamliners from Emirates

Boeing and UAE-based airline Emirates reached an agreement to buy 30 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft worth $8.8bn at the Dubai Airshow.

This purchase agreement followed Emirates’ commitment to purchase 40 787-10 Dreamliners at the 2017 Dubai Airshow.

The latest order is also in addition to the acquisition of up to 50 A350-900 XWB aircraft from Airbus for AED58.7bn ($16bn).

Air Astana signs LoI for 30 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft

Kazakh flag carrier Air Astana signed a letter of intent (LoI) for the acquisition of 30 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Valued at $3.6bn according to list prices, the aircraft will support the carrier’s new low-cost airline, FlyArystan, which was launched in May.

Offering between 130 and 230 seats, Boeing’s 737 MAX 8 can fly up to 7,130km.

CEB places order for 16 long-range Airbus A330neo aircraft

Philippines-based low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) announced plans to purchase 16 long-range A330neo aircraft from European manufacturer Airbus for $4.8bn.

The firm order signed by CEB is part of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two parties. The MoU covers 31 next-generation aircraft, including 15 A320neo family aircraft.

The new single-class configuration A330neo aircraft will be an enhanced version of the A330-900 with a seating capacity for up to 460 people.

CAE acquires 50% stake in SIMCOM for $85m

Civil aviation and defence training services provider CAE acquired a 50% stake in SIMCOM Holdings for $85m.

Headquartered in Orlando, Florida, SIMCOM is a privately owned learning institute that uses ‘realistic’ simulator-based training. It operates 47 simulators and flight training devices.

CAE also closed the previously announced 15-year strategic partnership with private investment firm Directional Aviation Capital (DAC).

Berry Aviation wins USTRANSCOM contract for worldwide airlift services

US-based charter airline Berry Aviation secured the US Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) Worldwide Airlift Services Program – 135 (WASP-135) contract.

Under the indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract, Berry Aviation will provide global Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 135 airlift services.

Using fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft, the company will perform domestic and international shipments, as well as transport personnel and cargo for the US Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal agencies.

India’s PSLV-C47 launches Cartosat-3 and 13 US nanosatellites

The Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C47, successfully conducted its 49th flight from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota.

PSLV-C47 launched India’s earth observation satellite Cartosat-3 and 13 US nanosatellites.

Lifted off from the Second Launch Pad, PSLV-C47 successfully deployed the observational satellite into the Sun-synchronous orbit of 509km at an inclination of 97.5° to the equator after 17 minutes and 38 seconds.

CAE pledges to become carbon-free by 2020

Aircraft simulation technology manufacturer and training provider CAE pledged to become carbon-free before mid-2020.

The announcement was made at the Montreal Council on Foreign Relations (CORIM).

In order to achieve this goal, the company is planning to offset its live training flights fuel emissions and energy used at its facilities worldwide and employees’ business air travel.
