Vision Systems designs and produces solar protection systems including polarizing solutions for continental/regional/business aircrafts and helicopters. SPD-smart windows (suspended particle device) are electronically dimmable solutions regulating the amount of light, glare and heat transmitted through the window.
The dimmable windows can be controlled through a control panel directly on the window reveal, a crew control panel or personal devices (smartphone, tablet). It provides instant and precise light-control for enhanced comfort. The SDP-smart windows do not emit any heat when powered, unlike electrochromic. It takes less than five seconds to change gradually and uniformly from clear to dark regardless of the window size, compared with two to three minutes for electrochromic systems (slower as window size increases).
The solution can also include specific sensors (brightness, temperature…) for automatic management. The regulation of the voltage through the control panel or the sensor orientates the particles instantly. When unpowered, the light transmittance is dark (<1%) which enable the aircraft to remain cool on the tarmac, reducing cooling costs. Conversely, electrochromic windows are clear when unpowered.
SPD-smart windows with integrated electronics offer more than 99% UV protection and blackout for complete privacy (electrochromic does not provide blackout), thus eliminating the need for mechanical shades and therefore enabling lower maintenance costs (no mechanical parts), weight saving and increased fuel efficiency. This silent automated solution is composed of a specific multilayer film enhancing sound insulation.
Unlike electrochromic systems Vision Systems’ dimmable windows are not only suitable for new constructions, glass substrates and flat designs but also for retrofit projects, thermoplastic and composite windows (less weight) and curved designs.
