Three facilities operated by PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) aerospace business have been recognised by Northrop Grumman Corporation’s Aerospace Systems sector with the 2013 Platinum Source Preferred supplier awards.
The facilities are the Huntsville, Alabama, transparencies facility; Irvine, California, coatings manufacturing plant; and Kennesaw, Georgia, application support centre (ASC).
Northrop Grumman grants the awards only to aerospace systems sector suppliers that achieve distinction in product quality, on-time delivery, customer satisfaction and robust, lean processes.
This marks the eighth year PPG’s ASC-Atlanta in Kennesaw has received the Platinum Source Preferred supplier award. It supplies Northrop Grumman with sophisticated PPG defence coatings and sealant products to support modifications, development and production for naval and air force weapons systems.
Recognised for the second time, PPG’s Huntsville facility designs and manufactures advanced transparency systems. A first-year winner, the PPG Irvine facility supplies water-reducible primers and urethane, epoxy and advanced-performance topcoats.
PPG Aerospace general manager and vice president for the Americas David Morris said: "PPG Aerospace and the employees at Huntsville, Kennesaw and Irvine are highly focused on our customers and committed both to the service and quality of our products.
"Earning these awards shows that we are acting on that commitment. It gives our employees very well-deserved recognition for their efforts and something they can be proud of as members of our team."
The three PPG operations were among 74 recipients of 2013 Northrop Grumman supplier awards.
Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems global supply chain vice-president Lisa Kohl said: "Achieving excellence in any endeavour is difficult, but consider how tough it is when we’re challenged to do more with less and to keep doing it better.
"Northrop Grumman has set a very high standard, and it’s our privilege to honour those suppliers that exceed it."
A longtime supplier to Northrop Grumman, PPG provides transparencies, coatings and sealants for several air-based programmes.
