SELGA-COAT® CHROME is a hard chrome plating process, which operates with a five-to-six-times-higher current density compared with conventional hard chrome.
It is used on carbon or hardened steel parts, and is currently being modified so that it can be applied to aluminium and other materials.
SELGA-COAT allows specifically defined surface areas to be plated. Parts are inserted into mechanisms that only allow the plating electrolyte to target the chosen area. Additionally, areas that do not require plating are covered with a sealing system. This system is environmentally friendly and efficient.
SELGA-COAT treatment is most suited to the automotive industry and mechanical engineering, with axles, spindles, shafts or pipes likely to need chrome plating. However, any other carbon or hardened steel part can be hard chrome plated, as long as the treatment is appropriate.
When a material is hard chrome plated using SELGA-COAT, it obtains a high deposition rate of 5µm per minute, layer hardnesses up to 1,200HV, and very narrow layer tolerances.
