AD Aerospace and AEI win Contract for Fleet Wide Fit
easyJet, Europe’s number one low cost airline, has chosen FlightVu CabinVu video surveillance systems for cockpit door security across its entire fleet of 77 B-737s, including aircraft from Go. AD Aerospace of Manchester UK, and AEI of Orlando USA are providing the video security system and installation design respectively. The system enables the pilots to visually check the area outside the flight deck door without leaving their seats.
‘The safety and security of passengers and crew is absolutely paramount at easyJet.’ Said Samantha Day of easyJet. ‘Therefore we have taken this move to improve the in-flight security of our aircraft by fitting FlightVu CCTV security systems. The cockpit monitor gives our pilots a clear view of the area outside the door so they are aware of anything occurring and can positively identify a crew member who is requesting entry.’
The need for increased security on aircraft has become obvious with recent events in the industry. The introduction of intrusion resistant cockpit doors has made the pilots safer but has isolated them, leaving them unaware of what is happening in the cabin. This is where CCTV comes into use.
‘CCTV systems, such as FlightVu, which allow the flight deck crew to monitor the cabin area outside of the cockpit are a major step forward in passenger airliner safety,’ said Mike Horne, Managing Director, AD Aerospace. ‘This existence of secure flight deck doors and efficient CCTV surveillance not only makes a hi-jack less likely to succeed but the knowledge that these measures exist reduce the chances of an attempt even occurring.’
The CabinVu system consists of three CCTV cameras linked to a LCD monitor mounted in the cockpit pedestal in clear view of both pilot positions. The cameras are located above the flight deck door and either end of the front galley area to cover the entire door area. The system also includes Infra Red illuminators that allow the area to be viewed even with the cabin lights extinguished. AEI have an STC and CAA modification certification for the fitting of FlightVu systems on B-737-200/300/400/500. Approval for 600/700 is expected soon.
