AD Aerospace and AEI Supply Fleet Wide Fit
Britannia Nordic, a leading charter holiday flights operator from Norway and Sweden and is part of TUI AG, has adopted FlightVu Cockpit Door Monitoring Systems (CDMS) for its fleet of 6 Boeing 737-800s. Britannia Nordic is one of the first Scandinavian based airlines take this move in enhancing the security and safety of its passengers and crew.
AD Aerospace of Manchester, UK and Aircraft Engineering & Installation Services Inc. (AEI) of Orlando, Florida, USA, are providing the video security system and installation design respectively. The FlightVu CDMS system enables the flight crew to monitor the area outside the flight deck door and adjacent galleys without leaving their seats. The pilots can visually identify anyone requesting entry and take appropriate action should an incident arise.
“Britannia Nordic always puts the safety and security of our passengers. We understand that the flight is the start of their holiday and we want it to go as smoothly as possible,” said Heino Ramstedt, Britannia Nordic. “We believe that FlightVu CDMS will enhance the systems and procedures we currently operate.”
Security measures are being increased throughout the airline industry. This is in response to the heightened awareness of risks from terrorism and air rage over the last few years. Although the introduction of intrusion resistant cockpit doors has made pilots and the airlines safer, it has also isolated the pilots by making them unaware of what is happening in the cabin. This is where Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) comes into use.
The FlightVu CDMS consists of three CCTV cameras linked to a LCD monitor strategically mounted in the cockpit pedestal. The system provides the flight deck crew with clear, forward viewing, real-time video of the area outside the cockpit door. The CCTV cameras are flush mounted, in low-profile color coordinated housings, to the aircraft interior outside the secure cabin door and in the galley area. Infrared Illuminators are included to allow the area to be viewed even with the cabin lights extinguished.
“We are very pleased that Britannia Nordic has selected FlightVu CDMS for its fleet,” said Mike Horne, Managing Director, AD Aerospace. “I believe that secure flight deck doors and efficient CCTV surveillance greatly improves the in-flight safety of commercial aircraft.”
FlightVu cockpit door monitoring systems have been or are being installed on aircraft for, bmi, Britannia, easyJet, FlyJet, Hapag Lloyd, Air Seychelles, Britannia Nordic and MyTravel amongst others.
