AD Aerospace has been appointed by Hong Kong Express Airways – Hong Kong’s fourth airline – to supply FlightVu Cockpit Door Monitoring Systems (CDMS) for its new fleet of Boeing B737-800 aircraft.
Consisting of CCTV cameras linked to an LCD monitor or strategically mounted in the cockpit pedestal, the video security system system will enhance Hong Kong Express Airways’ existing safety and security features by providing the airline’s flight deck crew with clear, forward viewing, real-time video of the area outside the cockpit door.
With a route network spanning cities in mainland China and South East Asia, Hong Kong Express Airways is expanding rapidly within what is one of the fastest developing markets for air transport in the world. The airline will take delivery of a total of seven new B737 aircraft by the end of 2007 which will be fitted with the AD Aerospace system by Aircraft Engineering & Installation Services Inc. (AEI) of Orlando, USA.
"We are delighted to have been selected by Hong Kong Express Airways to provide them with Cockpit Door Security on their new B737s," said Mike Horne, AD Aerospace Managing Director. "Taking such a move to further protect passengers demonstrates an understanding of today’s traveller and their increased concerns over personal safety and security." He added.
Flush mounted, in low-profile colour coordinated housings, to the aircraft interior outside the secure cabin door and in the galley area, the FlightVu CDMS system will enable flight crew to view the area outside the flight deck door, including the adjacent galleys, from their usual seated positions. Pilots will be able to visually identify anyone requesting entry and take appropriate action should an incident arise. Furthermore, the system’s Infra Red Illuminators allow the area to remain in view even with the cabin lights extinguished.
FlightVu cockpit door monitoring systems have been or are being installed on aircraft for, Air Seychelles, bmi, Thomsonfly, Air Asia, Corsair, easyJet, Hainan, Germania, Hapagfly, TUIfly Nordic and MyTravel amongst others.
