Comair Limited, British Airways’ franchise partner in South Africa, has returned to AD Aerospace, an AD Group company, for a CabinVu-123 cockpit door monitoring system to enhance in-flight security on its new B737 aircraft.
The system improves security by increasing the situational awareness of the pilots by providing them with a clear and unrestricted view of activity in the area outside the cockpit door and in adjacent galleys.
Erik Venter, joint CEO of Comair Limited, said: “We have been very pleased with the quality and reliability of the CabinVu-123 systems we operate, so we have been happy to return to AD Aerospace for video security for our new aircraft. The CabinVu-123 cockpit door monitoring system helps pilots by increasing their security and that of the entire aircraft, along with the existing safety and security procedures we have in place.”
CabinVu-123, which has fewer LRUs, lower weight and simpler installation than earlier systems, provides pilots with a forward looking, clear and unobstructed view of the area outside the cockpit door and in the adjacent galleys from their usual seated positions. A series of cameras are linked to one or two monitors and associated controllers within reach of the pilots for ease of use.
With the view provided by the system pilots can visually identify anyone requesting entry and take appropriate action should an incident arise. This is in line with recommendations from ICAO Annex 6, EUROCAE ED-123 and provides compliance with EU-OPS 1.1255 sub part S, FAA 14 CFR 121.313(k) and 14 CFR 121.584 (a).
Mike Horne, managing director of AD Aerospace, said: “It’s always pleasing when an existing customer returns to us. And with Comair, our first customer in Africa, it’s great to see its fleet renewal programme progressing so well.”
FlightVu equipment has been or is being installed on aircraft for Boeing, airBaltic, Austrian Airlines, GECAS, ILFC, Neos, Privilege, Orient Thai, Comair, Hong Kong Express, Hong Kong Airways, bmi, British Airways, JetBlue, Thomsonfly, Air Asia, Corsair, easyJet, Hainan, Germania, TUIfly, Sama and MyTravel, among others.
