The space industry has undergone unprecedented growth since the start of the 21st Century becoming one of the fastest growing industry sectors on the planet (or in this case off of it).
The drivers of this growth and the role that Australia plays in space will be presented by Mr William Barrett, Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific Aerospace Consultants (APAC) at the World Space Biz 2016 Conference in Bengaluru from 1 – 3 September 2016. Mr Barrett is part of the Australian delegation attending the conference and one of the Australian companies exhibiting at the 5th Bengaluru Space Expo 2016 which runs concurrently with the World Biz 2016 Conference.
Mr Barrett’s talk "Space Transformation in the 21st Century and Australian Space Capabilities" is based on APAC’s recent report to the Australian Government "A Selective Review of Australian Space Capabilities".
The presentation will cover some of the key findings of the report including:
- Globally, commercial space activities are continuing to outpace government activities and now constitute the majority of the global space economy
- The use of space systems, space-derived data and space enabled services generate 70% of space economic activities worldwide.
- Commercialisation of space activities is being driven by an emerging consumer market in areas such as satellite broadband, and navigation/positioning technologies such as GPS-enabled applications.
- Australia has a growing space sector generating annual revenue of around $3 billion per year
- Employment in the sector is estimated to be around 10,000 full-time equivalent staff
- Space-related products and services are used in every sector of the Australian economy.
- Australian firms have strong capabilities in ground systems and related space enabled services and applications, driven by the extensive use of satellite communications and navigation in Australia.
- Space-related products and services are used in every industry sector of the Australian economy.
